A contingent of GSU officers was last week deployed to stand guard at the newly refurbished Mweiga Sasini farm on the Nyeri-Mweiga highway where President Kibaki is expected to retire at the end of his term. A new tarmac road has been built along with a perimeter fence. Our moles say the palatial retirement residence may be officially opened at the end of this month.

The spouse and an aide of a Cabinet minister carted home Sh60 million cash neatly stacked into a carton from the minister's office. The minister was not in the office when the wife arrived saying she needed to get certain documents which her husband had locked in his office. She was escorted into the office by the minister's aide and was rummaging through the filing cabinet and boxes when she found the carton packed with crispy new notes. She ordered one of her own bodyguards — who was waiting for her outside the office — to carry the cash to her vehicle. Accompanied by the minister's aide, they drove home and counted the money. They were startled to see just how much it was!

All is not well at the Friends of Raila (Fora) political lobby group. Two founder members are unhappy with the powers accorded Imenti Central MP Gitobu Imanyara who is the deputy patron of the group. The two founders are complaining that they have been relegated to the periphery and have to wait for their decisions to be endorsed by Imanyara before any action is taken. One of the officials, a close relative of an ODM senior politician, is so agitated that he has now threatened to confront the party leadership over the matter.
