2 MPs allied to UHURU Kenyatta in TROUBLE

Sunday, the 12th of August 2012 - News just in indicates that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko has given the go ahead to the prosecution of MP’s Jamleck Kamau and Peter Mwathi respectively over hate speech. The DPP’s actions represent another coup by the Mzalendo Kibunja-led National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) commission which just recently chalked up another victory after successfully bringining MP Chirau Ali Mwakere to court over hate speech charges.

The DPP in April gave a strong warning to politicians over hate speech;

“I would like to send a strong signal that the full force of the law will be applied against any groups or individuals who are bent on causing hatred and disharmony in the country,” said the DPP.

“As part of the law enforcement agencies, the ODPP shall discharge its mandate to ensure that the next General Election is free and fair, and that those who attempt to benefit by inciting the public are dealt with swiftly and firmly in accordance with the law,” he added.

While approving the prosecution of Mwathi and Kamau, the DPP let Makadara MP Gidion Mbuvi off the hook over hate speech charges, saying that there was insufficient evidence to pursue the same.

Mwathi’s troubles revolve around statements he reportedly made in last February that were interpreted by some to mean that he was threatening Kikuyu leaders who were not backing Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta.

Mwathi later came out to clarify his statements;

“I referred by name to Hon. Peter Kenneth and Hon. Martha Karua,” said Mwathi. Adding;

“At no time did I refer to the health status of any leader let alone Hon. Karume and Hon. Kamotho.”
