The claim by Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo that there are elaborate schemes to eliminate Prime Minister Raila Odinga should be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated by the relevant security machinery in order bring the architects of this heinous scheme to book and save our motherland from self-destruction.
The news has really shaken Kenyans to the core.
When the life of the PM of a country is threatened, it becomes a national security matter since it can cause instability of the whole country and even beyond.
What makes this whole issue more complicated and sensitive is the forthcoming General Election in which the stakes are high.
Coupled with the inflammatory and hate speeches from key presidential candidates lately, this revelation is sure to trigger unnecessary tension and animosity among the different ethnic communities.
National interest and the future of the country is more important than the parochial and myopic political interests of a few individuals.
The allegations, whether real or imagined, should never ever be taken for granted. This is Kenya. We’ve previously had political assassinations that have never ever been brought to closure.
That’s why any such talk raises deep emotions and political temperatures to boiling point.
The government must beef up security for key candidates.
