Cabinet Secretary proposes sharing of elective posts

Kimemia said the Government will deploy County officers across all the 47 Counties by June this year in readiness for the forthcoming elections
The head of Public Service and Secretary to the cabinet Francis Kimemia has called on candidates aspiring to vie for positions in cosmopolitan counties during the forthcoming general elections to consider power sharing arrangements among all ethnic groups to help promote harmony and peaceful co-existence.
He cited Nakuru County where he said members of different communities resided and urged those vying for County positions to share elective positions among all communities to safeguard the prevailing peace and avert any form of tribal animosity as witnessed after the last general election in 2008.
At the same time Kimemia said the Government had put in place measures to deploy County officers across all the 47 Counties by June this year in readiness for the forthcoming General elections.
He appealed to the over 5 million Kenyans without National Identity cards to acquire them urgently to facilitate their participation in the unique electoral process under the new constitution.
The Permanent Secretary was speaking in   Nakuru North during a burial ceremony of a prominent former Baptist clergy.
On his part Rift Valley Provincial Commissioner Osman Warfa said the Government will be keen on all political related activities in the hot spot areas of Rift Valley province to forestall incitement that has often fanned violence.
Warfa appealed to all Kenyans seeking elective posts to be responsible by supporting the Government`s and national bid to integrate all communities with each other for a peaceful country.
The Commissioner also said the Government had resettled all families that were displaced by the 2007 electoral violence adding that those that were dissatisfied with the Government`s programme to pursue appropriate channels in addressing their grievances.
