Saitoti said the government remains committed in the fight against terrorism
Internal Security Minister George Saitoti says police have arrested several suspects in connection with the recent grenade attacks in Mombasa as they seek to establish the perpetrators of the attacks and their motive.
Speaking after receiving 6 vehicles donated to the Anti-terrorism unit by the British Government, Saitoti said the government remains committed in the fight against terrorism adding that more information will be availed once investigations are completed.
The recent spate of terrorist attacks across the country targeting innocent people has raised concerns on the government's preparedness to counter these attacks.
Saitoti said police have taken precaution by not publicizing the progress of the investigations to avoid availing terrorists a chance to learn mitigation measures by the country's the security agents.
Interim British High Commissioner Peter Tibber said the government should hasten police reforms to ensure accountability.
Police Commissioner Mathew Iteere welcomed the gesture terming it as timely.
Iteere said this is one of several initiatives by the British government that will go a long way in the fight against terrorism.
One person died and 30 others were injured in the recent attack on worshipers at Mtwapa and another on an entertainment joint next to the Mombasa Municipal stadium.
23 of those injured were treated and discharged while 11 others are still admitted to the Coast Provincial general hospital.
The incident happened barely three weeks after another grenade attack on a Nairobi bus station killed at least nine people and wounded 72.
