Outrage as woman shot dead in demo

A woman was shot dead and two boys aged eight and 11 injured after police fired at a crowd in Nairobi’s Dandora Estate on Sunday.
The shooting triggered hours of chaos as residents took to to the streets and marched to the nearby police station demanding action against the officers.
Buru Buru police boss Hassan Barua said the victims were hit by stray bullets, adding that his officers fired after they were surrounded by rowdy youths who wanted to lynch a suspect they had arrested. 
He denied reports that three people were killed during the shooting.
“Our officers had gone there to arrest a murder suspect. The suspect killed a man there last month and we received information that he had been spotted. The crowd was attempting to lynch him. As officers, we don’t accept that and our officers had to shoot in the air,” he said.
The incident happened at around 8am.
Mr Barua said the boys were admitted to the Kenyatta National Hospital and were in stable condition.
Residents said the woman was standing at the balcony of her house, watching the events when she was shot.
While addressing the area residents, the police boss said they were investigating why the officers opened fired during the incident.

The unruly youths looted some business premises during the protest and even blocked cars from entering the area.
