President Mwai Kibaki has directed the police to enforce the law to the letter and deal firmly with motorists who violate traffic regulations in total disregard of the rights of other road users especially during the Easter holiday.
President Kibaki regretted the growing number of motor vehicle accidents and losses of many lives especially on roads that have recently been improved.
In his Easter goodwill message to Christians, the Head of State blamed the many accidents on the improved roads to careless driving and called on motorists to exercise caution and avoid over-speeding.
He especially cautioned on the dangers of alcoholism and told driver to stay clear of drunkardness while transporting passengers.
In this regard, the Head of State urged Christians congregating in various places of worship this Easter weekend to conduct special prayers for the safety of the citizens and the country.
"Let us all sanctify ourselves and pray for God's help in ensuring the safety of our people and country" he said.
The Head of State urged Kenyans to appreciate the many blessings God has bestowed on them and acknowledge that the country's achievements have been possible due to God's sovereign grace.
"Indeed, we need to be thankful to God individually and collectively as a nation as we appreciate that without His Mercy we would not share in His bounty of blessings nor manage to surmount the challenges that come our way" noted the President.
President Kibaki, at the same time, urged Kenyans to embrace God's gift of deliverance by going before Him in repentance while seeking forgiveness from those they have wronged.
The message also reminded Christians that the resurrection of Jesus was the consummation of God's plan of deliverance for humanity from the bondage of sin.
"During this joyful occasion, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the promise of redemption and eternal life, which arise from the power of the resurrection" he observed.
He impressed on Christians to learn from God's sacrificial giving of His only son for the love of humankind and demonstrate the same to the less fortunate members of the society.
