Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka on Sunday reiterated that he was firmly in the presidential race as he intensified his hunt for votes in the Rift Valley.
Speaking at St Peter’s Catholic Church in Elgeyo-Marakwet County, Mr Musyoka expressed confidence the G7 Alliance would produce a candidate who will succeed President Kibaki.
“This is the right group that will help unite and bring change to our nation. We don’t want to go to elections when our people are divided,” said the VP.
Mr Musyoka claimed that his move to form a coalition with president Kibaki soon after the 2007 disputed presidential election results helped in ending the violence.
“Were it not of the coalition things could have been worse. I believe I have the best leadership qualities for this seat,” he said.
The VP asked the Kalenjin to consider him for presidency, arguing that he stood with them during the good and the rough moments.
“I have many friends among you but more importantly, I need your support and prayers. I am one of you,” he said in Eldama Ravine constituency where he made his first stop on Saturday.
The VP revisited his shuttle diplomacy which sought a referral of the Kenyan case at the International Criminal Court (ICC), saying it never failed since they got unanimous support from African countries.
“We are a sovereign State and we cannot continue kneeling down to other people 50 years after independence,” he said.
Eldama Ravine MP Moses Lessonet said the community will not take for granted the role the support he gave those facing charges at the ICC.
“You are a viable president and the people of Rift Valley will not forget what you have done for them. It will not be in vain,” he said.
