Govt tells KAA staff to get back to work

By Standard Reporter
The Government has issued notice to Kenya airports’ authority workers to resume their duties by today (Sunday) or face dismissal. In its statement, the government has assured members of the public that operations at all airports have resumed with no interruptions.
KAA’s board of directors have been briefed on the decision that any worker who fails to report to work will be deemed to have deserted their duties. Operations and service delivery at the both domestic and international airports across the country have been paralysed during the Easter break after KAA workers downed their tools.
The aviation and allied workers union called for an industrial action after the KAA management allegedly failed to agree on a new salary plan bargain for its workers. KAA failed to acknowledge the strike adding that the industrial court termed it illegal. So far, police officers have had to replace security screening personnel at checking points in airports.
The staff had gone on strike demanding better pay.
