Couple to be charged with killing of trader

An Administration Police officer and his wife are to be charged on Monday with the death of a surveyor.
The officer was arrested at an AP camp in Nairobi while his wife, a musician, was seized in Bomet.
Surveyor Eliud Yego was shot dead on March 31. His body was set ablaze and dumped near a river at Cheplakwet village, Konoin District.
Police spokesman Eric Kiraithe said the evidence gathered by detectives allegedly linked the suspects to the offence.
“Our commitment to fighting crime is defined by service delivery and in this particular case, in-depth investigations yielded the results we have seen,” he said.
Flying Squad officers, who arrested the two, recovered a vehicle stolen from Mr Yego before he was killed.
The officer’s firearm was also confiscated. A ballistics expert is expected to examine it and determine if it was used in the killing.
Police also raided a premises in Nairobi West and recovered parts of Mr Yego’s vehicle, which had been sold.

The surveyor had travelled in his car to Kisumu on the day he was abducted and later killed.
His brother, Mr Jacob Yego, said he had travelled to Kisumu for business.
Wounds and burns
Villagers, who discovered the body, said the hands were handcuffed and it had bullet wounds in the head and burns on the lower torso.
They also reported having heard gunshots that night.
Mr Yego operated Chalan and Associates firm in Eldoret and Nairobi. Police said the killers might have trailed him for hours before abducting him.
The businessman is remembered in Eldoret town for starting projects to rehabilitate young people, who had fallen into alcoholism.
