ODM to challenge IEBC decision
The Orange Democratic Movement will move to court to challenge the decision by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to fix the elections date on March 4thnext year.
ODM party chief whip Jakoyo Midiwo at the same time alleged that the IEBC has been compromised by the PNU wing of the ruling coalition and had overstepped its mandate.
"I want to declare that we shall be moving to court to make IEBC know its mandate and to save the country from parliament and leadership whose term will have expired" said Midiwo.
Midiwo who was accompanied by the Siaya County Council chairman, Councillor Aggrey Onyango, was addressing a press conference in Siaya town.
He said that the high court ruling being cited by the IEBC never gave them power to fix the date of the elections unless the two principals, Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga dissolved the coalition government during which, they could hold elections within 60 days.
Midiwo accused the IEBC chairman, Isaack Hassan of treading the path of the chairman of the defunct Electoral Commission of Kenya, Samuel Kivuitu who took sides, resulting into the 2007 /2008 post elections violence.
He said that the commission had consulted with Prime Minister Raila Odinga and president Mwai kibaki differently and the two had agreed to consult next Tuesday and wondered why the IEBC had the hurry to announce the date.
He called on right thinking Kenyans not to allow the IEBC to prepare ground for flawed electioneering that will result into chaos.
"Kenyans are eager to avoid what the country went through by announcing flawed elections results" he said adding that ODM will push for the elections to be held in December this year.
