AN assistant minister has asked the four Kenyans who were indicted by the International Criminal Court not to cooperate with it. Wilfred Ombui yesterday said the fate of the four had already been sealed. “I advise the Kenyans not to go to The Hague because their fate was sealed long time ago. I don’t see the appeals going through,” said the National Heritage assistant minister. North Mugirango/Borabu MP.
The North Mugirango/Borabu MP took issue with Prime Minister’s Raila Odinga’s persistent attacks on two of the suspects, Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William Ruto. Other suspects are radio presenter Joshua arap Sang and former Civil Service boss Francis Muthaura. “The PM’s utterances are polarizing the country and evoking memories of the violence to some of us who survived,” added the Kanu MP.
The MP was rescued by police after hundreds of youths blocked his car as he was driving from Nairobi at the height of the violence in the year 2008. Ombui a close ally of Uhuru and Ruto said prayer meetings for the suspects will not be stopped. “We believe in prayer and God’s power. We shall not be cowed into stopping the prayer meetings. The meetings will go on as scheduled and those who don’t believe in payer should give us a break.
The MP said the Prime Minister’s statement confirms that the documents tabled in parliament last week by Yatta MP Charles Kilonzo are genuine. “From his statement demanding the arrest of the suspects, we can confirm that the documents are genuine,” said Ombui whne he spoke to the Star on phone.
