BIASED

A section of members of parliament are accusing the speaker of national assembly Kenneth Marende of taking sides in the ongoing debate on the proposed constitution.

Chepalungu MP Issac Ruto and his Mutito counterpart Kiema Kilonzo say that Marende should be impartial saying that his move would compromise the forthcoming referendum.

The MPs claim that the speaker's remarks to the effect that those campaigning against the draft are insincere was tantamount to intimidation.

The speaker has been quoted as saying the MPs were insincere in that they could have rejected the draft in parliament instead of allowing it to pass and then casting aspersions on it.

The MPs have also lashed at the Prime Minister Raila Odinga saying he was demeaning those opposed to the draft.

The MPs say the premier's remarks were undermining democracy.

However the MPs have called for tolerance during the ongoing debate on the draft saying they stood by their stand in opposing the draft and that they would continue to marshal Kenyans to reject the proposed draft.
