ASPIRANT: Kass Radio presenter Joshua arap Sang addressing the press in Kitale yesterday. He declared his intention to vie for the Trans Nzoia senate seat.
RADIO journalist Joshua arap Sang has declared he will vie for the Trans Nzoia senate seat with area councillors backing his bid. Speaking outside Nzoia County Council Hall after a meeting with more than twenty councillors in Kitale, Sang said the county’s poor development record has fueled his ambition to join politics. “I have decided to vie for the seat because my dream has been to join politics and help in improving the county’s infrastructure among other things," he said. Sang is among the four suspects whose charges were confirmed by the ICC.
Others are Eldoret North MP William Ruto, Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and former head of civil service and secretary to the cabinet Francis Muthaura. Sang told Trans Nzoia youth to also support him saying he will create employment if elected the senator. He asked area residents to reject leaders and aspirants who issue divisive statements and hatred. “Youth are the most affected when it comes to being misused by politicians with bad intentions and they must bear in mind that those who incite them do not benefit them in the end," Sang said. ”Residents of Trans Nzoia should observe equity when electing leaders to ensure that every community at least shares leadership to enhance balance,” he said.
He regretted that Kenya Seed company is situated in the county but farmers from the area are normally the last ones to get certified seeds and this acts as a barrier to effective farming. He said he will fight for reduction of the price of seeds and fertiliser if elected the senator. Present were Trans Nzoia Council vice chairman Gilbert Chepkwony, Kitale deputy mayor Pius Kauka and twenty councillors. Former Saboti MP Davis Nakitare, politician Robert Wamalwa, former Maendeleo ya Wanawake chairlady Zipporah Kittony have also expressed interest in the senate seat.
