THIS IS DEMOCRACY. The jitters in some quarters in ODM over Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi challenging party leader Raila Odinga for the presidential nomination confirms the mistrust and lack of democracy in parties, remarks Jim Webo. “Until our politicians learn that competition is healthy and winning and losing are part and parcel of the game, we shall not get very far. I do not see what should prevent Mudavadi from throwing his hat in the ring. This is how to demystify leadership. Let the ODM delegates choose who should carry the party’s flag in the poll.”

SMELL A RAT. The recently unveiled medical scheme for civil servants is simply laughable, remarks Henry H. Njaguah, who finds the idea of beneficiaries choosing their favourite health service providers rather absurd. “What if one falls sick far away from the assigned hospital? Also, what assurance is there that drugs will now be available in public hospitals? Being a civil servant, I smell a rat. Why should I subscribe to a scheme that will just benefit an insurance company.” His contact is jaguah2030@gmail.com

SHOCKED FIRM. A regular shopper at Uchumi’s Lang’ata Road branch in Nairobi, G. Gathogo, who claims that CEO Jonathan Ciano also patronises the same outlet, says he is impressed with the efforts being made to create a better environment for customers. However, Gathogo is unhappy about the way whoever has been contracted to carry out the latest interior improvements is going about the job. He was shocked to arrive at the supermarket to find a portion cordoned off with iron sheets. “I wonder if Ciano likes or approved this!” Gathogo’s contact is ggathogo@gmail.com.

LET DOWN BY BUS FIRM. Akamba Bus Company, which prides itself in connecting East Africa, has become a bit of a disappointment on the Nairobi-Mbale, Uganda, route, says Jacque Wambui. On February 2, the bus that was to leave at 9pm, only came at 2am. Her two sons, who were going back to school in Uganda, had to stay out in the cold. “Quite often, they assign old buses to this route, which break down along the way,” moans Jacque, whose phone contact is 0734668809 or jcqwambui@gmail.com.

NO JOY FROM TV. When she signed up for Wananchi Group’s Zuku TV service on January 19, Nairobi resident Rachel Kariuki says she expected the very best but is now terribly disappointed. Says she: “It appears these people have set up a service they are not able to support. In the past week or so, I have not had any service, and my calls to the customer service desk have yielded nothing. What is even more annoying is having to talk to a machine,” says Rachel, whose phone contact is 0721668660 or rae.kariuki@gmail.com
Have an entertaining day, won’t you!
