It has now emerged that Botswana Football Association (BFA) was not aware of any international friendly against Kenya’s Harambee Stars.
Acting chief executive officer (CEO) Sonnyboy Sethibe told Mmegi Sport on Wednesday that he had seen the report but the association was unaware of the game. Football Kenya Limited (FKL) Hussein Swaleh was quoted saying that the friendly had been cancelled because of logistical problems.
But Sethibe said that they are looking at arranging a match for the Zebras on the next FIFA date in October but added that Kenya has not appeared on the list of the teams being considered. Zebras have already qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals to be co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea next January.
Kenya and the Zebras played an international friendly last month in Gaborone, which the home side won by a solitary goal from Moemedi Moatlhaping. The match against Kenya would have come just a few days before their do-or-die AFCON qualifier against
Uganda in Kampala, Uganda. Kenya are currently third in their group with seven points, two behind second placed Angola and three behind group leaders, Uganda.
Angola take on Guinea-Bissau in the last game.
