A cross-section of leaders from Nyeri have supported Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta’s bid for presidency. Speaking at Muthua-ini AIPCA church in Tetu district at the weekend, the leaders said they will support Uhuru as the only presidential candidate from Central Kenya.
The leaders include two Nyeri aspiring senators Mutahi Kagwe and Chris Murungaru, Nyeri aspiring governor Nderitu Gachagua and his aspiring deputy governor Wachira Maina Keen. Others include Tetu MP Francis Nyammo and Kieni aspiring MP Kanini Keega. The leaders said they are ready to support Uhuru since he is the only one from the region who can take the country to greater heights.
Murungaru said Uhuru is clean of corruption. "We are behind Uhuru. He is a man of integrity who is not tribalistic. He cannot harm even a fly,” said Kagwe. Keen who is also the chairman of Nyeri County Council said Uhuru is the only spokesman of the Kikuyu community and he is fit to be their presidential candidate.
Gachagua and Keega urged Uhuru to ensure farmers benefit from their agriculture sector once he takes the seat noting that the farmers have been languishing in poverty for many years.
Murungaru and Kagwe also supported the government’s efforts to fight the al Shabaab militia in Somalia. They urged Christians to pray for the army and other security forces who are pursuing them in order to finish their mission safely. “Give the government all the information you would have to help fight those militia. Also be very vigilant,” added Kagwe.
