Share/Save/Bookmark The mother of late Olympic champion Samwel Wanjiru has refused to withdraw a case barring his burial. Wanjiru’s lawyer Ndegwa Wahome said an agreement had been reached over the weekend between Wanjiru's mother Anne Wanjiru and his widow Trizah Njeri that the case at the Nakuru high court would be withdrawn to pave way for burial arrangements.

Speaking at his office in Nyahururu where he had met the funeral planning committee, Ndegwa said chances of striking another deal with the mother's lawyers are narrow and the only option is to go for full hearing of the case.

Ndegwa said the case was to be withdrawn on Monday morning but Wanjiru's mother changed her mind when she met her lawyers Gordon Ogolla and Wilred Konosi in Nakuru. He accused the lawyers alongside and two Wanjiru's business associates of dragging the case to serve their own selfish interests.

The lawyer claimed the businessmen had set aside Sh2 million to facilitate the case and they are the same people who facilitated the moving of the body to Lee funeral home from Nyahururu District Hospital.

Ndegwa said the two want to continue controlling Wanjiru's wealth and were creating a wedge his mother and widow. Wanjiru's mother had given three conditions before the case could be withdrawn.
