Vet nominees or face censure, House warned

By RAWLINGS OTIENOThe civil society has welcomed the nomination of Willy Mutunga and Nancy Baraza to top Judiciary offices.
National Civil Society Congress (NCSC) officials congratulated the Judicial Service Commission for a job well done, arguing the two nominees for the posts of Chief Justice and deputy CJ were people of integrity.
They also threatened to take to the streets if Parliament rejected them.
"We will mobilise Kenyans and demand Parliament to vet the two. Otherwise we shall be on the streets for mass action," said NCSC President Maurice Odhiambo.
Speaking at a breakfast meeting in Nairobi, on Sunday, Odhiambo said, "These two offices are key in reforming the Judiciary hence the need for them to be occupied by people of integrity and track record."
They urged the appointees to sweep the Judiciary clean of corruption and other malpractices if approved.
They urged Kenyans to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the new Constitution and put to task MPs to speed up its implementation.
