Share/Save/Bookmark ODM returns to the grassroots this week to educate party workers ahead of party polls scheduled for the end of May. National Elections Board secretary Joseph Misoi said yesterday the party will hold meetings in every region countrywide. The four-tier elections will be held at sub-location or village level on the  May 27, location or ward level on May 28, sub-branch or constituency level on the 29th while the branch or county elections will be held on May 30th. “The elections will comprise all the organs of the party namely the Orange Young Democrats League, Orange Women Democrats League and the mainstream elections,” Misoi said. He said the board will be in Nyanza at the Kisumu Town Hall tomorrow for party cadre from Kisumu, Siaya, Migori and Homabay counties. Another team will be in Eastern for the Machakos town for stakeholders from Machakos, Kitui and Makueni.
On Wednesday, forums will be held at Gusii County Hall for stakeholders from Kisii and Nyamira counties while another forum will be held in Embu for Embu, Tharaka, Meru, Isiolo and Marsabit counties. “Candidates for various positions in the party at the grassroots level will have an opportunity to meet the board members to be taught the basics for the elections and how to ensure smooth success of the whole exercise,” Misoi said.
The party declared only loyal and committed members will be allowed to vie for posts.  MPs allied to Eldoret North legislator William Ruto have vowed to keep off the polls arguing procedures had not been followed.
ODM has in the past been forced to postpone its grassroots elections in the wake of reports that the planned polls had caused serious split in the party hierarchy.
In March, the party was forced to postpone its national elections which were scheduled for April. This was the third time that ODM called off the elections in three months. The party had announced that polls would take place between April 2-6. The initial party polls were set for January.
