Narc-Kenya has finally won its battle for funds allocated to political parties by the government.

The Political Parties Dispute Tribunal ordered the Registrar of Political Parties to sub-divide the Sh48 million allocated to the Party of National Unity (PNU) in accordance with the law.
The tribunal directed the registrar to distribute the funds according the number of votes scored for parliamentary and civic election by each party in the last General Election.
Tribunal members — Mr Peter Simani, Rev Jessie Mutura and Mr Chacha Odera — concurred with lawyer Cecil Miller for Narc-Kenya that the law should be followed in distributing the funds.
Recover funds
They asked the registrar to recover funds so far distributed to PNU constituent parties.
Mr Miller told the tribunal that Narc-Kenya was only allocated Sh2.6 million when it was entitled to get more given its “unbeaten vote garnering record during the 2007 General Election.”
Mr Miller argued the party was entitled to more than Sh29 million since to brought more votes for parliamentary and civic seats than any of the 26 other parties that form PNU.
The tribunal rejected PNU’s formula of distributing the Sh48 million released by the government.
“It is quite clear, therefore, that a proper determination must be made of the votes cast for parliamentary and civic candidates,” the tribunal ruled.
