They met at Mumbetsa village at the burial of Ursula Khatambi, a former teacher at Musoli Mixed Primary on Saturday. Shinali spoke before Khalwale and promised to conduct an impromptu fundraiser for the bereaved family at the end of the programme and handed the microphone back to area councillor Bernard Likulu, the master of ceremonies. He invited Khalwale, who temporarily hijacked the programme. Khalwale, the former MP who lost his seat in February after Shinali petitioned, invited Kakamega South Knut branch officials to speak. At the end of his address, he told the crowd he wanted to lead the harambee and started by donating Sh10,000 and invited Shinali to make a donation. Shinali shot from his seat behind Khalwale and demanded the microphone, but Khalwale told him to go back to his seat. At this juncture, nominated MP Millie Odhiambo and Shinyalu MP Justus Kizito, who were themselves waiting for a speaking opportunity, walked to the dais. Khalwale introduced her and gave her the microphone. She said she would hand in her contribution after others had done so. When she gave the microphone back to Khalwale, he passed on to masters of ceremonies Bernard Lukulu. Khalwale left soon after saying he had to attend another funeral gave the microphone to Lukulu who invited Kizito. Shinali promised Sh2 million to equip Emulama dispensary and said he will next week start building an office for Mumbetsa assistant chief and provide water tanks for Mumbetsa school. Both candidates did directly appeal to voters. Kizito said Khalwale was no longer in control of the CDF kitty and asked the government to freeze the constituency account.
