House team asked to vet nominees

House Speaker Kenneth Marende has referred the names of Dr Willy Mutunga, Ms Nancy Barasa and Mr Keriako Tobiko to the relevant parliamentary committee for consideration.
The Justice and Legal Affairs committee, which is currently embroiled in a leadership wrangle should be the relevant committee to deal with the vetting of the proposed Judiciary officers before tabling a report in Parliament for approval.
Last week, Mr Marende was forced to refer the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Bill to the Constitution Oversight Implementation Committee, following the deadlock in the justice committee where the chairmanship of Mr Ababu Namwamba has been challenged. On Tuesday, the House Business Committee met and asked the Liaison Committee to set a date for the Justice team to elect a new chairman and proceed with its work.
On Wednesday, Mr Marende directed that the relevant committee of the House takes up the names immediately indicating the urgency needed and table its report on Wednesday next week.
