Deputy CJ nominee Baraza was in Ghai team

Share/Save/Bookmark Deputy Chief Justice nominee Nancy Baraza has practised law for 30 years. The former chairperson of the Federation of Women Lawyers of Kenya was appointed to the Kenya Law Reform Commission in 2008 for a term of three years and was recently reappointed for another term of three years by President Mwai Kibaki.
Earlier this year, Barasa was elected the chairperson of the Media Council of Kenya’s Ethics and Complaints commission. She served in the original Yash Pal Ghai’s Constitution of Kenya Review Commission which produced the Bomas Draft which served as one of the reference drafts for the constitution passed last year.
Baraza has a law degree and masters as well. She is currently completing a doctorate in law and her thesis on rights of gays drew some interest during the interviews."We must encourage activism in the Judiciary for a good cause. That way we will start viewing the judiciary from the prism of power to a prism of service delivery," said the Kenyatta University law lecturer,” Baraza told the Judicial Service Commission.
