Corridors of Power

Share/Save/Bookmark One of the Kenyan dignitaries recently found himself a passenger in a beaten up Nyaugenya bus which an airline operating the Kisumu route had laid on for its passengers. Access to the Kisumu airport has been limited since rehabilitation works started being done. The airline has laid on a shuttle bus for the convenience of its passengers who are dropped at various hotels in the lakeside town from where they take their vehicles. The passengers were bemused when the dignitary emerged from the dilapidated bus only to enter a top of the range chauffeur- driven vehicle which was waiting for him at the hotel.

A city politician who has been bragging about his closeness to Prime Minister Raila Odinga has found himself declared persona non grata in the PM's office. Reason? His habit of using his proximity to the PM to access monies allegedly for political activities which he then spends on himself has finally made him anathema and he has been warned not to show his face in the PM's office.

A day after he vigorously demanded a statement from the Government to explain why Ugandan opposition leader was being 'frustrated' by Kenyan authorities, Yatta MP Charles Kilonzo was very much present at President Museveni’s swearing in ceremony last week. Our wags say there could be a connection between the two events. But of course, maybe it is just a coincidence.

With four days to go before the Kamukunji by-election, aspirants are reading mischief into reports that one of them has received a sudden infusion of millions of shillings from some mysterious quarters. The candidate who has received the windfall has reportedly been running a minimalistic campaign devoid of much of the obvious 'expense' of his rivals. Corridors hopes the KACC is keeping tabs on the cash and how its being used.
