Cabinet reshuffle expected as Principals meet

By Biketi KikechiA Cabinet reshuffle maybe in the offing after President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga agreed on a raft of issues, among them re-organisation of the Government.
It is understood that Raila raised the issue of incessant bickering in political parties and how it had affected the running of Government.
According to sources, the PM has been uncomfortable with the probable return of suspended Higher Education Minister William Ruto to cabinet despite the fact that he was cleared of corruption allegations that had led to his removal.
"They discussed political re-organisation and the vacant positions in the cabinet that will lead to a major announcement soon," said the source.
Expressed satisfaction
Other sources indicated that they expressed satisfaction with the nomination of Dr Willy Mutunga and Ms Nancy Barasa for the positions of Chief Justice and Deputy Chief Justice.
They will now be expected to announce those who will occupy the positions of Director of Prosecution and the Attorney General.
Already the names of Mr Keriako Tobiko, Ms Dorcas Oduor and Mr Patrick Kiage have been shortlisted for the position of DPP, while President Kibaki had earlier proposed the name of Prof Githu Muigai for the position of AG.
It also emerged that other areas Kibaki and Raila covered included the high cost of living in the country and the spiraling prices of fuel in the country.
Two weeks ago, Raila told Parliament that the Government had removed all taxes and levies on kerosene to reduce the cost of lighting and cooking energy.
But his announcement was not gazetted, leading to the PM grumbling in public that Government efforts to help Kenyans were being subverted by some people in Government.
Oil Prices have, however, continued to skyrocket and motorists are currently paying Sh115.6 for a litre of petrol.
Violation of territory
The two principals who met for over two hours at Harambee House addressed among other issues the violation of Kenyan territory by armed groups from neighbouring countries.
Merille tribesmen from Ethiopia recently massacred 37 Turkana men, women and children.
"The meeting was shrouded in secrecy but they will again meet this week to finalise what was agreed," said a source in Government.
