Share/Save/Bookmark A political activist who briefly interrupted President Yoweri Museveni keynote address in Nairobi on Satrurday was released six hours later without being charged.
Ndolo Benji of Centre for Rights Education and Awareness was set free from Central Police Station at about 7pm on Saturday, hours after Museveni had finished his presentation and left for Kampala. "I was treated well by the officers apart from one who arrested me at the Intercontinental Hotel. He punched me, but officers at the station were nice and released me without any charges," Ndolo said yesterday.
The activist said he was dismayed that other activists and many other Kenyans sat in silence and allowed Museveni to speak when he is abusing the same very human rights they strive for. "I dont understand. We want to be treated well and we do not care how our brothers in Uganda are being treated. My conscience could not allow that to happen," Ndolo added.
He said he chose to interrupt Museveni at the start of the speech after realizing that the President was not going to mention anything to do with Dr Kizza Besigye who is admitted in a Nairobi hospital suffering from eye trouble after he was roughed up and teargassed by police in Kampala on Thursday.
