In a statement, the Ministry of Public Service said the process of short-listing the candidates will take place on Friday.
“Interviews will be conducted in the second week of May 2010, all names of the short-listed candidates will be published in the print media,” read the statement.
Other prominent applicants include lawyer Otiende Amollo, who was a member of the Committee of Experts (CoE) that drew up the new Constitution, State counsel Dorcas Oduor and Nairobi lawyer Patrick Kiage.
The applicants will face a panel of six, chaired by Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) secretary general Francis Atwoli.
The other panellists include representatives from the Office of the President, the Prime Minister’s office, the Justice Ministry, State Law Office and LSK.
An earlier attempt to fill the office of a new DPP ignited a controversy after Prime Minister Raila Odinga rejected nominees to judicial and budget office jobs on the grounds that he was not consulted.
Mr Odinga disowned President Kibaki’s nominations of Chief Justice, Attorney General, Director of Public Prosecutions and Controller of Budget saying there were no consultations between him and the President as provided for in the Constitution and the National Accord.
National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende declared the nominations unconstitutional and the impasse was broken when President Kibaki withdrew his list and indicated that the selection process begins afresh.
President Kibaki had nominated Justice Alnasir Visram (CJ), Prof Githu Muigai (AG), Kioko Kilukumi (DPP) and William Kirwa (Controller of Budget).
