Sonko runs away from Gilgil accident

Flamboyant Makadara MP Mike Mbuvi alias Sonko is being sought by Gilgil police to record a statement after he left the scene of an accident involving his car and an Akamba bus.
The Toyota saloon the MP was in rear-ended the bus at 3 am on Monday. The MP and his passengers drove off after they realised their car was only slightly damaged. It was not clear who was driving the car at the time with reports indicating there were five occupants.
Sonko, came out of the vehicle after the collision, and told the passengers in the bus that he wanted to rush one of his bodyguards who was injured to hospital. He however did not return to the scene of the accident.
Passengers in the Kampala-bound bus said Sonko's bodyguard was injured on the head.“The MP said he was rushing the injured man to hospital and that was the last we saw him,” said a witness.
Confirming the incident, Naivasha OCPD Ernest Oponyo said they wanted the MP to record a statement on what transpired.“We don’t understand why the MP decided to leave the scene of the accident with the car that was involved and we want to talk to him over the matter,” he said. He added that Sonko left the insurance sticker of his car at the scene with one of the witnesses.
The Akamba Bus was taken for mechanical check and another one called in to ferry the passengers to Uganda. Late yesterday Sonko told journalists in Kisumu that he had been involved in an accident.
Sonko was speaking before he officiated at the launch of a peace soccer tournament organised for teams in Kisumu Town East constituency by two NGOs — the Fadhili Trust and Foot Soldiers. The two NGOs were set up after the post-election violence to promote peace among the youth.
Addressing the teams and football lovers, Sonko said Prime Minister Raila Odinga deserves respect for "bringing Kenya to where it is today".
The MP recently told a rally in Ukambani that he was more popular than Raila in Nairobi. But yesterday he told the youth to accord Raila the respect he deserves for his contribution to the country's political development.
