By Allan Kisia and Roselyne ObalaPrime Minister Raila Odinga has told his political opponents he would not be cowed by their persistent accusations over his alleged involvement in post-election violence.
"We will not be shaken in any way. We are only concerned with development matters," he said.
The Premier’s remarks come at a time his critics led by Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William Ruto have been traversing the country accusing him of being behind their woes.
In Kiambu County, the two accompanied by their allies announced that they would be a force to reckon with in next year’s elections.
Yesterday, while addressing a series of rallies in Emuhaya District, Raila said his concern was fighting poverty, illiteracy, diseases and bad governance.
Addressing a crowd at Esibuye market, the PM said the four vices would be addressed adequately after the General Election next year.
"After the elections, Kenyans will start reaping the benefits of the Constitution, which you will overwhelmingly passed at the referendum," he said
He said those who opposed the Constitution are the same people causing divisions.
"They lied to you that the Constitution would allow abortion, gay marriages among other things that are socially unacceptable," he said.
Raila said the Constitution is gender friendly because women are the biggest beneficiaries.
The Prime Minister also addressed locals in Mwichio and in Luanda. Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi, Cabinet Ministers Paul Otuoma and James Orengo, assistant minister Manyala Keya, Ayiecho Olweny, George Khaniri, Alfred Khang’ati and Elizabeth Ongoro accompanied him.
Others were MPs Alfred Odhiambo, Wilbur Otichillo, Yusuf Chanzu, Polyns Ochieng, Shakir Shabir and ODM chief whip Jakoyo Midiwo.
At Mumboha grounds in Luanda market, Raila said his team won’t be shaken by attacks.
He urged ODM supporters to remain in the party because it is still strong. He expressed confidence that the party would form the next government. Mudavadi said suspects facing trial at The Hague should not blame Raila for their woes.
He further said the International Criminal Court (ICC) process does not interfere with or undermine the country’s sovereignty.
"Those facing trial are individuals and not the Government. The ICC tries individuals not governments," said Mudavadi.
Orengo echoed the deputy PM’s remarks saying Kenya is not on trial at The Hague.
He said the ICC process shows clearly that nobody is above the law.
"You can see the former Police Commissioner and even the Secretary to the Cabinet are all going there," he said.
