Harambee Stars’ captain Dennis Oliech wants the government to ensure any Kenyan citizen is allowed to participate in the fourthcoming football elections to allow for free and fair elections.
Addressing a press conference at the Sapphire Hotel in Mombasa on Friday, Oliech also expressed full confidence in current Harambee Stars coach Zedekiah Otieno but appealed to the Harambee Stars management board to consider engaging Sofapaka coach Francis Kimanzi on a supervisory role.
Oliech, who was accompanied by Harambee Stars’ liaison officer Hussein Terry, said the players should not be involved in campaigning for any candidates because theirs is to play football but said it was only fair that everyone is given a chance to contest.
“It is wrong to start locking out candidates because of age limit and court cases thus giving unfair advantage to other candidates who may not be very competent,” the Auxxere striker said.
He was quick to point out that he has no preferred candidate for the polls.
“Let the Kenyans decide whom they want to run Kenyan soccer by parading all those who have shown interest at the polls,” he said.
Oliech also expressed confidence that Harambee Stars will qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations.
