THE HAGUE, Apr 8 - Kenyan Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta arrived on Friday at the International Criminal Court, which has charged him and five others with crimes against humanity during post-election violence.

Kenyatta, son of Kenya's founding president Jomo Kenyatta, made no comment when he arrived by car at the court headquarters, preceded by two other defendants, Francis Muthaura, President Mwai Kibaki's right-hand man, and former police chief Mohammed Hussein Ali.

They were summoned to appear before a pre-trial chamber to be informed of the charges levelled against them stemming from violence in the months following Kibaki's contested re-election in December 2007 that left some 1,200 dead.

Former higher education minister William Ruto, former industrialisation minister Henry Kosgey and radio presenter Joshua arap Sang appeared in the same court on Thursday.

Charges against the six include murder, deportation, rape, inhumane acts, persecution and torture.
