Group claims MPs will spy on witnesses

By Peter AtsiayaThe civil society has expressed fears MPs accompanying the ‘Ocampo Six’ to The Hague will spy on witnesses.
The National Council of NGOs said it would petition the International Criminal Court’s Chief Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo over the matter.
"We petitioned Dutch Ambasador Laetitia Van Den Assum to prevail upon the embassy to deny the MPs visas but she referred us to the ICC," said Ken Wafula, the council’s chairman.
Speaking in Eldoret Monday, the group claimed the MPs were on a mission to spy on witness so as to harass them or their families back at home.
"We have established that some of the MPs accompanying the ‘Ocampo Six’ have an ill motive. They want to establish who the witnesses are and what they have to say about the suspects," said Wafula.
More than 40 MPs are scheduled to travel to The Hague reportedly to show solidarity with the suspects, who include Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William Ruto. Wafula, at the same time, criticised the MPs for politicising the ICC issue.
