He said recent activities involving a clique of politicians were likely to compromise the existing peace and stability.
He said Kenyans should elect responsible leaders who can steer the country forward and ensure lasting peace.
“You need to hold politicians to account regarding their actions,” Mr Ranneberger said Wednesday during the launch of Mt Elgon peace development project.
The ambassador pointed out Kenyans should elect the best person to lead the country regardless of his tribe or ethnic group.
The US envoy regretted that hate speech and bad politics had led the country onto a wrong path.
He, however, said many Kenyans were yearning for change following the realisation of a new Constitution.
“Kenya is moving towards a brighter future and that is why people of Mt Elgon need not be left behind,” he said.
Mr Ranneberger said many Kenyans are tired of the same old politicians and want a new leadership that is honest and transparent.
He said Kenyans should elect leaders who will end impunity and stop corruption.
The ambassador said transformation led to the United States electing its first ever black president, Barack Obama.
