The cutting edge

SHAME. Though the protests over the cost of living and the high food and fuel prices in Nairobi and other towns are quite in order, Kenneth Biko takes exception to the humiliation of a police officer, who was only doing his job by being there to keep the peace. “I was shocked by the action of the human rights activist who placed a sufuria on the head of a humbled police officer during a demonstration. He should be reminded that the officer is also human and deserves respect like everyone else. Shame on him!”

GARBAGE TRUCKS. There is a new traffic menace in Nairobi — the ramshackle lorries ferrying rotting garbage to the dumpsite at Dandora, moans James Gakuo. The makeshift garbage trucks are notorious for littering roads, as they are not properly constructed for the job. Also, they often break down, becoming eyesores of stench and most of them can hardly go uphill and become a nuisance to other road users. James would like to see the vehicles strictly vetted before being cleared for garbage collection.

ARROGANT MP. The arrogant Ocampo Six-supporting MP who thinks ICC prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo is less of a human being for biking to and from work couldn’t be more mistaken, remarks Njoroge Wachai. “Unlike our bureaucrats, who ride in fuel-guzzlers, civil servants and elected officials in the West are conscious of what effect such a display of wealth would have on taxpayers. The Mayor of the City of Seattle, US, despite earning a whopping $148,000 a year, rides to and from work every day without bodyguards.”

REFUND. Airtel is, indeed, behaving badly, remarks Godwin Murunga. On August 25, last year, he was notified that his monthly BlackBerry service had expired. “This was incorrect. I tried to renew, but the system did not accept my payment. I called them to fix the problem and they did not. On August 28, I succeeded. But I had gone for three days without service and asked for a refund. I spoke to so many officials and finally kept quiet. I’m considering further action.” He can be reached on gmurunga@gmail.com.

LOST SHAPES. Without explaining his supposed expertise in these things, Maiko Sunzuki says that looking at the morphology of the Kenyan woman, something has gone wrong. Says he: “Can anyone explain to me the mystery of the change in body shape. They used to be a Coca-Cola bottle body structure (Figure 8 and not size 8). But today’s women baffle me. Even those as young as 18, have no waistline, or rather have potbellies. Has anyone seen any with Figure 8 body?” His contact is unitedpamoja@yahoo.com.
Have a shapely day, won’t you!
