Corridors of Power

Share/Save/Bookmark A diplomat is accusing a PNU activist of conning him out of Sh3 million last week. The activist reportedly proposed to the diplomat that he finance a countrywide demonstration in support of a project. The activist proposed the cost would be Sh5 million. The diplomat gave the activist Sh3 million as a downpayment for logistical support with a promise to pay the balance on the eve of the demonstration. Unknown to the activist, the diplomat received information from his embassy intelligence sources that no demo was being organised. When the activist went to the embassy to demand the balance of Sh2million, he was confronted by the angry diplomat who accused him of lying. The confrontation was reportedly so intense that an MP who was waiting in the lobby of the embassy had to separate the two men.

Taxpayers are footing the bill for a team of "freelance journalists and political activists" who have travelled to the Hague. Corridors has learnt that one of the Ocampo Six suspects, who has considerable influence within the government, authorised the use of public funds for three journalists to attend the ICC proceedings. Two of the journalists are closely linked with one of the suspects while the other works for a well known radio station.

Close to 80 Kenyans who applied for vacancies at the national airline Kenya Airways are a frustrated lot. Reason? KQ reportedly advertised the vacancies in August 2010 which attracted hundreds of applications — including people who quit their jobs in the hope of joining the Pride of Africa. All the successful candidates were enrolled for a three-month training during which they were paid Sh10,000 a month. After the three months they were all sent home and told to wait until they are called. They have been waiting for several months now and many questions arise. Why train people and then send them home? Why make anyone resign from their previous jobs if you are not sure you will hire their services?
