Education PS shocked in surprise visit

BY LEONARD KORIR

Education Permanent Secretary, James Ole Kiyiapi made surprise visits to various schools at his home backyard district of Trans Mara and left a very disappointed man.

The PS was shocked by incompetence among the teachers in the schools he visited. His first stop was his former school, Kilgoris Boys Secondary, where he put teachers to task over continued poor performance in national examinations.

Teachers Service Commission Secretary Gabriel Lengoboini, Education Secretary George Godia, Director Quality Assurance and Standards Enos Oyaya and Rift Valley Provincial Director of Education Beatrice Adu accompanied the PS.

While addressing a stakeholders meeting later in the afternoon at Sosio Secondary School, Kiyiapi called on 90 heads of schools in the area to relinquish their positions.

"It is high level of mediocrity to retain a teacher in one station for more than 10 years when he/she cannot produce appealing results," said Kiyiapi.
