Nyanza leads

Nyanza province had the highest voter turnout in the referendum recording 85 percent while North Eastern recorded the lowest at 45 percent.

The Interim Independent Electoral Commission (IIEC) boss Isaack Hassan said most polling stations around the country had reported a 50 percent turnout by 3pm with Nairobi recording 60 percent.

Hassan said out of the 27,689 polling stations all except a few opened their doors to voters by 6am. He said the few that experienced hitches and opened after 8am, would be allowed to recover the lost time.

The IIEC boss made the remarks at a press briefing at the national tallying centre at Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi. He said that IIEC would announce provisional results every hour until all the results are all in.
