Amid the row over implementation, the Kibaki succession politics appears to have begun in earnest. A group of MPs allied to finance minister Uhuru Kenyatta endorsed him for the presidency at a meeting in Muranga. In Ukambani, another group of legislators declared that vice president Kalonzo Musyoka would team up with higher education minister William Ruto in the presidential race.
