Lumumba Sworn in

The Kenya Anti Corruption Commission director PLO Lumumba has been sworn in.

He was sworn in together with his two assistants, Pravin Bowry and Jane Onsongo, by Chief Justice Evans Gicheru Friday.

After the brief ceremony, Prof Lumumba appealed to those who had acquired wealth through corrupt means to appear before his commission and give it up.

Justice minister Mutula Kilonzo, who was present at the CJ's chambers for the swearing in, said Kacc had the government's full backing to fight corruption.

The Kacc directors, who will each serve a five-year term, were recruited by the Advisory Board and approved by Parliament in June after been cleared by the Parliamentary Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs, chaired by Mandera Central MP Abdikadir Mohammed.

Prof Lumumba takes over as the chief executive at the institution after the acrimonious resignation of the former director Justice Aaron Ringera in September last year.

Elsewhere, the Commissioner of Police has been blocked from arresting former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile for addressing a No rally in Eldoret during the recently concluded referendum campaigns.

Issuing the restraining orders, Justice Kimaru said his arrest would have breached his constitutional right, freedom of association and speech.
