Long queues create confusion at Kenya's polls

Sarah Kimani, Nairobi

Confusion has been witnessed at some polling stations in Kenya, as the country goes to the polls to decide whether to adopt a new constitution. So far, the exercise has been without any reported violence although tension is high in some areas.

Chairman of the Electoral Commission in Kenya, Ahmed Isaack, says there was confusion earlier about the queue but that has been sorted out. "I've noted as a commission that in some parts of the polling stations, there's been some confusion in the way people are lining up especially in busy stations."

Security is tight in most parts of the country especially in the area where violence occurred in 2007 after the dispute of the elections. There are 10 million registered voters in the country.
