Kenyans Saturday hailed the promulgation of the new constitution.

In Mombasa, residents expressed optimism that the new law will bring to an end the persistent land tenure challenges facing the area.

Residents say that the region faces unique and historical land injustices that only affirmative action sanctioned by new laws shall address the land problems in the area.

"The implementation of the new constitution marks the end of land marginalization of the region as the squatter menace and land grabbing will be a thing of the past,"said on of the locals.

They residents urged the government to speed up the implementation of the new law so that residents shall start benefiting from the fruits of the second liberation.

Ms Mercy Anyango who has settled in Mombasa said she was excited with the new law, saying the area has suffered greatly from the unique problem of absentee land lords especially in the Kisauni and Bamburi areas.

According to the high school teacher, the government should use the new laws to repossess all lands whose agents represent unknown landlords purported to live in the Middle East who enjoy land rents from squatters.

Mr Mohamed Abubakar said with the equalization fund, areas that have faced general under development shall be allocated adequate financial resources to pull them to equal or near to more developed regions.

Meanwhile, leaders from Marsabit Central district have called upon the Government to conduct massive civic education on the new laws in a bid to dispel rumors and misrepresentations generated during the referendum campaigns.

The leaders said the various pastoralists communities in the regions need to be sensitized to understand the new laws.
