Kenya poll body announces end of campaigns

The Interim Independent Electoral Commission has announced that referendum campaigns officially end Monday.

The IIEC CEO James Oswago said it is illegal to campaign for or against the proposed constitution on Tuesday.

The campaigns include all media advertisements and talk shows. "Referendum campaigns end today (Monday), including press talk shows, adverts, statements and interviews.

It is illegal to publish or air such messages tomorrow," said Oswago.

Meanwhile IIEC has confirmed that it is set for the referendum adding that all the necessary personnel have already been deployed country wide ahead of the poll.

Speaking at a press conference at the Bomas of Kenya where the final tally will be carried out, IIEC Information Technology officer Davis Chirchir said they will be transmitting provisional results electronically from each polling station simultaneously to the various constituency tallying centers and to the National Tallying Center.
