Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has called on Kenyans to vote for the proposed constitution on August 4 as it will empower them both socially and economically.
Mr. Musyoka said the passage of the new law will be a rebirth of the Kenyan nation as it will promote both local and foreign investments thus improving the economic status of the country.
He assured Kenyans that the new draft was better than the current one since it guarantees employment for the youths, empowers women, the elderly and the less privileged to make them self reliant
The Vice President was speaking on Sunday in Athi River town in Kathiani Constituency during a Yes campaign rally where he was accompanied by five Members of Parliament to drum up support the proposed constitution.
Mr. Musyoka singled out corruption, poor governance, unemployment and poverty as some of the problems facing the country and urged Kenyans to vote for the draft since it has strong laws on good governance, separation of powers, human rights, independent judiciary and illegal acquisition of public property which he said will ensure justice is provided for all.
Mr. Musyoka who expressed optimism that the draft will sail through noted that the document was good as Kenyans can live with it and move to the next level.
He urged Kenyans not to listen to lies being spread about the contents of the draft such as gay marriages since the government cannot allow such laws in the country.
The legislators who included Assistant Minister for Sports, Wavinya Ndeti who is also the area MP, Johnstone Muthama (Kangundo), Prof. Phillip Kaloki ( Kibwezi), Charles Kilonzo (Yatta) and Itwiku Mbai (Masinga) while addressing the gathering called on the Kamba community to vote for the proposed constitution as it was good and will uplift their living standards.
They said if the proposed constitution passes they will see good changes that were beneficial to them including free education for their children
The legislators said the constitution is not for President Kibaki, Prime Minister, Vice President and legislators but for Kenyans.
