George Saitoti has faulted the harmonized draft constitution, saying that in its present form it was not the type of law that could foster national unity harmony and democracy.
Prof. Saitoti said Kenyans had in their submissions to the Committee of Experts recommended that executive authority be vested in the person democratically elected.
He was speaking at St Barnabas Catholic church, Matasia, in Kajiado north district during its opening and blessing by Cardinal John Njue on Sunday also said Kenyans want a person running government to be accountable to them.
The Minister told the congregation that for the draft to be acceptable to all Kenyans it must he refined to address the concerns of fostering unity and harmony, and respect for democracy.
He said it was absurd that a president who is democratically elected is made a ceremonial figure and expressed hope that the parliamentary select committee will respect the wishes of Kenyans by correcting these anomalies.
Prof. Saitoti pointed out that Kenyans had been on the quest for a new constitution for over 20 years and cannot afford the risk of blundering again.
Cardinal Njue said the Catholic Church had made its stand known on the need to be clear on the right to life, saying any ambiguity that could see abortion allowed would not be acceptable to Catholics.
