The National Cohesion and Integration Commission is seeking a meeting with President Kibaki and Mr Odinga to find a way out of the controversy over the nominees to key judicial positions.
The Commission Chairman Dr Mzalendo Kibunjia said NCIC would seek an appointment with the two principals to facilitate dialogue to break the deadlock.
“We are hoping we will be able to intervene. As a Commission, we are looking at an appointment with the two principals to resolve the controversy and allow the country to move forward,” Dr Kibunjia told a media breakfast meeting on Tuesday.
In the meantime, the Commission asked the two principals to discuss the list of nominees soberly and minimise tension that is building up in the country.
“There should be dialogue to break the tension that is slowly building up in the run up to the 2012 General Election. The two must discuss the matters at hand soberly and fairly so that the country can move forward,” said Dr Kibunjia.
NCIC, he said stands for the rule of law and warned that shortcuts would not end the ethnic divides in the society today.
“As we implement the new constitution, we realize we have a fragile state and dialogue is quite necessary going forward. Without dialogue we cannot bring cohesion to this country,” he said.
