A group of TNA MPs has hatched a plot to get suspended Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu sacked, Majority Leader Adan Duale confirmed yesterday.
He fell short of naming the plotters, but said TNA MPs visited his office to get his support, which would lead to a petition that should compel President Uhuru Kenyatta to sack Ngilu over allegations of corruption and disrespect.
“There are serious concerns raised by the MPs. They want Ngilu out. However, I requested for more time to agree on the best way to address their concerns,” said Duale.
“They have indicated their intention to petition the President to sack Ngilu, but I implored on them to exercise patience,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ngilu announced yesterday she is in the government by right and will not be forced to leave.
She said that even if she is jailed over corruption charges, the country will move on.
Speaking at PEFA Church in South B during Sunday service, Ngilu said that she was part of the leaders who formed the Jubilee government through support from her Narc party.
“For everything that we do on this earth, there is only one being, God, who sees what we do and will judge us according to our deeds,” she told the congregation.
The TNA MPs have accused the suspended CS of divided loyalty and arrogance, especially when she recently defended Cord co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka against allegations of grabbing NYS land in Yatta.
The TNA legislators who have openly accused Kalonzo in the NYS land saga and expressed displeasure over Ngilu’s conduct included Ndung’u Gethenji (Tetu), Dennis Waweru (Dagoretti South) and TNA chairman Johnson Sakaja (Nominated).
However, when contacted, Sakaja denied knowledge of the petition or any plot to have Ngilu sacked. "No, I'm not aware! Who did that?" Sakaja said yesterday.
"We won’t entertain that discussion. Ngilu is part and parcel of the leadership of the coalition,” he said.
But Gethenji, who also chairs the House committee on Defence and Foreign Relations, did not respond to our calls and text messages by the time we went to press.
The Lands CS stepped aside and is being investigated over allegations of corruption after her name made the List of Shame the President presented in Parliament on March 26.
But a section of Cord MPs wondered why the TNA MPs would push for her removal before the investigations are concluded. “This is pure witch-hunt. There is nothing substantial in the petition,” said Jessica Mbalu (Kibwezi East).
Ngilu was suspended alongside Davis Chirchir (Energy), Michael Kamau (Transport), Kazungu Kambi (Labour) and Felix Koskei (Agriculture).
Duale, who has been in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, disclosed the MPs will hold a Parliamentary Group meeting today to find common ground on the matter.
