Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua says the county intends to dig 1,000 boreholes by May 2016. He also says his government will complete digging about 600 new boreholes and 300 dams by December 2015.
“It is a right for every person to have access to water and it’s not a privilege. All people in my county must have access to water,” Mutua said.
The county has in the past two months dug 150 new boreholes and rehabilitated 50 existing ones to serve all locations of the county. Each of these boreholes has a water tank and piped reticulation system installed.
“This is what we call “Maendeleo Chap Chap” we want politics that bring about development in our county; we are committed to offering transformational leadership,” he added.
The county now has about 746 operational boreholes.
“It’s a shame that in this day and age we are still walking miles in search for water, but we are using mobile phones… this should not be the case,” Mutua added.
He said the water will also be used for small scale farming, improving food stability in the county.
