Newly sworn it Gatundu South Constituency MP Moses Kuria has said that Cord members are obsessed with elections which is why they are now calling for a referendum.
Kuria who was speaking during an interview on NTV news said that some of the leaders in Cord sleep and dream of elections. “Some of these leaders sleep with ballot boxes next to them and wake up their wives saying it is time to vote,” Kuria said.
Kuria further added that the calls for the referendum by Cort is a deceit as the opposition is looking for a way to stay relevant. Kuria however said that the calls for a referendum by the governors is an ego trip and a continuation of supremacy battles with the senate.
Kuria said that what is needed is honesty and dialogue between the senate and governors in order to reach a solution that works for the constituents of the counties.
The Gatundu South legislator said of the refusal of governors to serve as secretaries in the County Development boards that are to be chaired by senators, that it is as if “only Jesus can chair the boards” as neither the senators nor the governors will agree to play second fiddle to the other.
Chairman of the council of governors Isaac Rutto who was also at the interview said that the push for a referendum is for the purposes of recognition of MCAs as equal to their National Assembly counterparts and also for county allocations to be increased to 45 percent up from 15 percent.
Governors have proposed that the county representatives be allowed to enjoy perks similar to those of MPs who have access to car loans, home mortgages and a host of allowances, among other attractions.
