Deputy President William Ruto Saturday visited veteran politician Kenneth Stanley Matiba at one of his hotels in South Coast.
Ruto paid tribute to Matiba for his contribution in expanding democratic space in the country.
“We are enjoying political diversity in this country because of the sacrifices you made,” he added.
Noting that the country was a lot better and people were competing in a robust environment , the Deputy President said Kenyans will forever remain indebted to Mr Matiba whose courage and resolve to expand democratic space in the country has very few equals.
Mr Ruto noted that he had inspired many young people including him to join politics to contribute to the betterment of this nation.
Matiba acknowledged Ruto’s sentiments and thanked God for his continued good health.
Speaking at the function, Mrs Edith Matiba challenged young politicians to aspire to leave a mark in the country so that they can be remembered for the good things they did for their communities and the country at large.
